Masterpiece Salad

A late evening and an early morning forced me to buy lunch from the salad bar today. I actually reeeaaally enjoy making a big-ass salad from the salad bar. I love seeing all of the different options and colors, and creating a "masterpiece" based on what I'm in the mood to eat. The salad bar at the School changes a little from day-to-day, so there's always something new and exciting to try. My salads are never the same thing twice!

Of course, eating a salad is even more enjoyable than making one. I love, love, love mixing random flavors together in each bite. I especially like the combos of fruit + veggies and hot/spicy + sweet. It's fun to have all of those different tastes competing in your mouth at the same time. (Ok, I'm definitely WAY too excited about today's salad!)

Tips to Build a Better Salad

Lunch also included an Oatmeal Raisin Bar and a small peach from yesterday's visit to the Copley Square farmer's market. Both delicious.

My afternoon snack was 1/2 cup of diced watermelon and a Nature's Choice blueberry cereal bar.

Is anyone else with me that cereal bars are just kind of blah? Maybe I've eaten too many Larabars, so now I know what a good snack bar tastes like?

I'm suppose to go to Trivia Night again this week, but I'm feeling totally sluggish. I want to hangout with my friends, but I have a feeling I won't be any fun. Ugh, what to do?

i have never been one to eat a salad for a main course, but yours sure looks and sounds amazing! i just need to be more creative :) if i unexpectedly can't fit a workout in, i'll get outside for a walk or pop in a pilates video at home

Gorgeous salad - thanks for the "build a better salad" link from Women's Health magazine's website!!

Larabars definitely reign supreme!! :0)

Only go to Trivia Night if you're REALLY up to it - don't tire yourself out!!

I always love the salad bar! The one at my school is pretty good too. Yum, I can't wait to get back to it!

I'd go to trivia if you start feeling less sluggish..but when I feel like that, I like to just stay in and relax!

I feel like that too about going out, but usually once you get there you'll enjoy the company and be happy you went! I was the same way last night and I had a good time :)

Personally, I would go home :p I HATE going out when I'm not in the mood...makes me cranky and tired.

I tried that brand of granola bars once. I thought they had a funny texture and the bars always fell apart. My son would have nothing to do with them and the huz hated them too. Needless to say I didn't buy them again and I think I ended up tossing what was left which I hate to waste food - throwing away hard earned scratch, not a good thing.
Sorry your dinner last night was blah, enjoy your night out with friends tonight - trust me I never get out (I love my son but mommy would like a night out here & there). The trivia sounds like a blast - I bet once you are there you will totally perk up.

Ha! I made one of these salads for lunch today, too. My coworker and I decided it was the perfect weather for a walk to Kresge for a gorgeous salad for lunch. My favorite parts of the Sebastian's salad bar is the beets, blanched veggies, and variety of beans. I also had an amazing farmer's market fresh nectarine. So similar! ;)

I get that way about the WF's salad bar. I am obsessed with it, but can only go so often because I end up spending $15.00 on a freakin' salad out of a cardboard box. But it is so delicious!!!

For the same reason, I love to go to places like Sweet Tomato or Fresh Choice because you can totally load up on anything you want! I usually go overboard though and can't finish everything! I guess my eyes are WAY bigger than my tummy! :)

I say go. I have a good friend who often reminds me, "You have forever to sleep in your coffin." It's morbid, but makes sense. Even if you go, sip water, I'm sure you'll have a great time and be an excellent contributor to trivia. I mean, what if they have a question on Larabars and you weren't there to help answer and the team lost? I'm just saying...

Mmmm...making big, random salads is my favorite! Sometimes I "forget" to pack lunch just so I can make one at a salad bar near work!

Haha... I love the "big-ass salad."

I think you might regret it if you don't go. Also, cereal bars do nothing for me! They just don't keep me full. It's like I'd need to eat 6-7 to be satisfied. I hope you go and have fun tonight Tina!

I LOVE salads from salad bars because as you said, there is so much to choose from. And I can dump in all those little things that can't really use at home because they go in such small quantities it is hard to use before the go bad. Time to let loose with all the creativity :-)

And yes yes yes, I am with you on the different bars. I hear so many people enthuse about them, but they never satisfy me or make me feel like I'm really eating. Even the "food-based" ones like Gnu bars or similar kinds. I need regular fresh food!

I know you meant snack bars, but I really can't eat ANY other bars after having Larabars. I even tried to blogland-beloved Clif Z-Bar in Chocolate Chip and it was beyond sweet & I could barely finish it. I also tried the Pure Protein Bars that everyone raves about and I threw it away after 3 bites. I'm a huge Larabar fan!
