Feel Good Friday

I love how great I feel after a tough, sweaty workout! It starts my day off right every time! (I just need to remind myself of this every morning at 5:15 am!) Oh yea, and the Starbucks afterwards is a feel-good treat too! :)

Today's workout was 30 minutes on the elliptical while catching up with the news, then a 30-minute Bosu class, followed by a 30-minute strength training class. (FYI: Bosu stands for BOth Sides Up. I didn't know that until recently.) I really pushed myself in the strength training class-- I felt a nice burn on a few of the exercises!

After the gym: Starbucks iced coffee with soy milk...

We had zero fruit in our apartment this morning (not even a single banana!), so I decided to splurge and purchase some fresh fruit from the School's cafe. My picks: strawberries, cantaloupe, pineapple, and grapes.

Once I finished eating my fruit, I made myself a packet of Kashi instant oatmeal with a scoop of peanut butter.

Question of the Day

When it comes to health, nutrition, and fitness, what's a bad habit that you would like to break?

Me: This is an easy one for me: I don't stretch! I know, so bad for me! However, in the last few months, I've been MUCH better about taking the time to stretch, especially before a workout. After a workout though, I still hit the showers without stretching sometimes! Bad, bad, bad. (Mental note: Stretch after every single workout!!!!!)

wowww great job at the gym Tina! you did so much! those endorphins must really be buzzing :)

hmmm... bad workout habit... I'm with you on the no-stretching thing unfortunately :( I just don't have the patience!
also I have kind of an "all-or-nothing" attitude sometimes. like if I make a plan for my workouts and then something doesn't go according to plan, it's tempting to just chuck it all.

that fruit looks amazing btw!

I'm with MWS, I have the all or nothing approach. I definitely need to stop that because I will go to the gym religiously for a while then have a weekend out of town and splurge and won't go back for a month. It's no fun! I also try to do too much too soon, get too sore where I can't move and lose motivation.

I def need to be more conssitent with the stretching... I have been adding yoga/pilates but do not strecth everyday!

wow on the the big workout!! you must be feeling awesome after pushing yourself!!

i know what you mean about those early wakeup calls... just this morning i literally spend 10 minutes in bed at 520am convincing myself i need to go to the gym! GLAD I DID!!

I think my worst workout habit is the Streching afterward...and focusing more on core exercises!!
Im a bit ADD when it comes to working out and both stretching and core work seems so boring to me!! Ahhh to work on!

I'm having a feel good Friday after a great morning workout too!!

My "bad habit": Not having enough confidence in my abilities. I'll find myself saying "7mph?! I can't sprint that fast!" or "You really think I can benchpress 60lbs?! You're crazy!" Yet time and time again trainer proves me wrong. I often catch myself saying I can't do something when I haven't even tried. I need to get more of an "I can" attitude. :)

My bad habit would be giving up to easily. I think that I can't do more or I would rather be doing something else. I need the motivation to just do it!

artificial sugar. way too much of it. i'd like to cut out sugarfree gum altogether, but i'm addicted. it's so bad!!

i need to stop my near addiction to baked goods but it's so hard for me (family genes) and it gives me something to do with my kids.

i love to stretch, i have finally built it into my workout time!

I don't stretch, either. Well, sometimes, but most of the time I convince myself that the yoga class I take once a week is enough. I'm ridiculous.

Stretching is my favorite part of my workout! It just feels sooooo good!

My bad habit is not pushing myself hard enough when I am working out on my own. I def. let my self slack!

Hi Tina! I just found your blog and I LOVE it! I know you hear that all of the time! I just wanted to tell you what an inspiration you are! I have a very high metabolism and it's nice to see the great meals you eat! What core excercises do you find the most effective? Keep up the FABULOUS work!!!

Stretching is a good one. I practice yoga a lot so that balances out my tight hamstrings. Another bad habbit I have is my splend use. I need to work on that.

That's a serious workout - good job!

Lindsay,

My favorite core exercise is the PLANK (and it's variations)! It works your entire core and upper- and lower-body muscles at once. It's a good one!

I am like Evan! I want to cut out sugarefree gum, but it is really hard. I have cut all all artificial sugars otherwise, so I guess I am getting there.

my worst exercise habit is that i rarely weight lift (like once a week, sometimes two). i KNOW i should lift more, but i spend so much time running, it's not like i want to go BACK to the gym to lift weights. bleeech!

Sounds like your Friday is going super-well - hooray!!

**When it comes to health, nutrition, and fitness, the bad habit that I would like to break is being too hard on myself (oh, the life of a perfectionist).

Not to sound like a big perve .. but what kind of sports bra do you use? .. i can't find good ones that have support without smushing everything so i can't breath. Also, i tend to sweat a lot and i need something breathable .. any suggestions?

Anon,

Haha, no worries! I get this question a lot! My favorite sports bra is Under Armour's HeatGear Shaper Bra.

i don't stretch either! It used to be my favorite part of my free weights class...but I don't do either now. BAD, BAD, BAD!

i didn't know that about bosu!!

Maybe not believe in myself enough! Definately comes into play in terms of my self control...

My worst habit is likely being too hard on myself, or thinking I'm slacking when I have a scheduled rest day or am sick. It helps me to have a training schedule though, so that I know hard days are hard and easy days are easy, and its that way for a larger purpose to be successful in a race/improve my abilities. Though believing that at some points is hard! I guess its part of realizing not everything is a hard-and-fast rule, and life happens!

P.S. neat about the Bosu meaning - I never knew that either.
