That Sandwich Looks Awesome

My study session went much better this morning. I woke up 15 minutes earlier, showered and got ready lightening fast, ate breakfast while checking my email, and had a whole hour and a half to study for the NASM. I got through about 2/3 of a chapter (reading and taking notes). I'm actually starting to feel a little better about the exam. The first 3 chapters blast science right at you, which is especially overwhelming if you haven't taken any sort of science course since freshman year of college. However, once I made it to chapters 4 and 5, I can see how the later chapters simply build off what you learned in the first few chapters. It all ties together quite nicely. Let's just hope this pleothra of information sticks in my brain!

Breakfast

I made the most wonderful breakfast panini this morning-- even Mal commented on its awesomeness! :) Inside 2 pieces of whole wheat bread:

  • 1 tbsp of low-fat ricotta mixed with 1 tsp of cinnimon
  • 1 sliced banana
  • 1.5 tbsp of almond butter (sadly, not Barney Butter)
  • 5 chopped dates
  • 2 tsp sliced almonds

Grilled perfection...

While I studied, I sipped on an iced iced with vanilla hemp milk.

Question of the Day

How do you manage your time (planner, blackberry, online tool, etc.)? What is your best time management tip/trick?

Me: I am a paper planner girl-- have been since the 6th grade with my assignment book. I'd like to transition to an online planner, but I just can't seem to do it. I often think of things that I need to do mid-commute when I don't have access to a computer. Writing something down in my paper planner then typing it into an online tool is double the work. Maybe an iphone would help? :)

My best trick: Do the little tasks first! I feel much more accomplished crossing things off my list (even if they are small) and it builds momentum to tackle the bigger projects.

That sandwich does look awesome!

I'm a paper and pen girl too when it comes to making to-do lists, etc. I just find it to be easier and faster to write in my planner. It just doesn't look as pretty. :)

Glad to hear you got in a good study session!

i have a palm pilot, it's old but it has all my contacts, calendar, etc. but if i worked, i think i would be a paper gal

i think it would be hard to have personal and work things on teh same device and be using it on a work computer?

I'm a paper and pen girl too. I love having my planner with me so that I can physically cross items off the list. I hate trying to use an online calendar or planner. It's just not my thing.

My way to tackle homework or work assignments is to do the most dreaded things first. That way when I'm starting to get tired, I'll have more enjoyable tasks to work on. The only exception is studying for an exam. I will get any written/reading assignments done first and then tackle the studying.

That sandwich does look awesome. I think I would omit the ricotta, but ANYTHING with dates is fabulous in my book.

If you open a sandwich shop, I will come!

mm yummmyyy sandwich!

An iPhone would definitely help! I looovee mine. I sync it to my outlook calendar so I do the majority of my planning there but when im out and about I can just edit my planner right from my phone! I also like to print out my planner week by week so that I still get to check things off :-)

I'm a paper girl as well. I am addicted to making lists and feel like I've accomplished something when I can check things off. I've tried to use computer programs, but I always have to have my paper planner.

I tend to work in the opposite direction though. Tackling the hard stuff first so I get it over with.

I really wish I could say that I had an ultimate planning system, but I use more of a combination. I keep a lot of "date" related things on my Google Calendar (bill due, exercise plans, dinner out with friends - as examples) and I keep work-related and homework-related assignments in a separate paper journal. I don't know why I do it this way - but it works for me. I almost like the separation of my personal life from my work/school life.

I also a pen and paper girl. I usually write my to do lists on post its and stick it to my wallet or something in my purse.

Your paninis always look good. I have a goerge forman but what is the difference with a panini maker? I'm bad about using good ol' george because he is a pain in the ass to clean.

Lisa,

I actually don't think there is much of a difference. Our panini maker is actually a "griller," which means we can cook meat on it like a Foreman. I think you'd be able to use your Foreman the same way. (I agree it is sometimes a pain to clean!)

Nice sandwich!! I want a panini press but Matt says it's too "unitask" for us and I can just use a skillet :(

As far as online planners and stuff, you probably know of my love for Google Calendar. How I get around the "need to see my calendar on the subway" problem is I just print them. Then I can take notes on them and make the changes when I get home. Works for me, and I never have to cross things out and have ugly pen marks or white out.

I WANT to be an iPhone to do list and calendar lady, but I just can't seem to make the time to set it up. right now I use my work calendar for both work and personal + i write in a paper planner for my personal + wedding stuff, PLUS i make paper to do lists. definitely NOT the most organized way.

ur panino looks awesome yum.

OMG!! You are such a huge fan of Barney Butter! Have you found something comparable ( or at least palatable) as a subsitute?I too like to tackle the small tasks first-- it motivates me to forge on when I feel I am on a roll by getting SOMEthing done. I mostly write things down but when I can't, I try to list them in my head! It's not always the most effective method but I feel I am at least excersizing my brain when it's time to pull them out.

Anon,

Nothing yet, but I think Barney Butter has a completely different taste than other almond butters. It has a more roasted flavor.

Hooray for a good study session!!

CAN YOU PLEASE MAKE THAT SANDWICH FOR ME?!?!?!??! Okay, thanks :0)

I manage my time with good ol' fashion, handwritten to-do lists.

I have an iPhone, but I am also still into paper and pencil "To Do" lists. I love being able to physcially cross things off a list.

Yes, that sandwich DOES look awesome.

That sandwich looks awesome, Tina! Haha ;o)

I am a paper planner girl myself - I used to love it back in middle school and high school when they would provide planners for you and they had all the courses listed out and had those pages with the cool math calculations and world history facts - just in case you needed them. Do you know what I'm talking about?

I also just went to todoist.com and set up a toolbar on my computer that allows me to put my G-mail into the to-do list and click on it directly. That has really helped me because it's been getting harder to remember who I haven't responded to, etc. and this makes it so I don't leave anyone hanging!

That sandwich sounds incredible. WOW. WOW. I love the combination. I wonder if I can replicate it on the George Foreman! :)
I use an old-school spiral planner.

Paper planer!
Being a college student I like being able to carry my planner around with me so that way I can write down things my professors informs us of. Also, if I am early to class I just take a few minutes to jot down what I need to and check off what I have already done.

As always great job with the blog!

I am also a big fan of the handwritten to do list!

I, too, love lists and crossing things out (sometimes i even split up big tasks just to make it easier to feel like i've accomplished something!)

The grill marks on your grilled sandwich, impressive!
As for planning, I use my blackberry (since its often annoyingly glued to me) for appointments/conferences/telephone calls, etc. For work reasons, it all has to be accessible to my colleagues. Personal stuff just gets labeled "private" and is un-viewable. In terms of things on the to-do list, I tend to keep it mentally stored up - though the feeling of checking something off a list has quite the appeal. I keep forgetting to bring the list with me though, lol!
