Wrong Side

I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. When my alarm went off at 5:35 am, I felt complete drained... every ounce of energy was zapped. I instantly decided: "Hell, no!" to the gym. I laid in bed for another 5 minutes before I forced my butt out of bed. I immediately chugged a glass of ice cold water to help me wake up. After about 10 minutes of aimless wandering around our apartment, I finally settled down to study. (I mixed things up again today: study - first; shower, get ready, eat - second.) I was able to fit in about an hour of study time, which included making flashcards and reading about fitness assessments (very cool).

Breakfast this morning was a fantastic (!!!) bowl of oatmeal-oat bran with chopped dates, almonds, and vanilla hemp milk, which made my oat mixture sweet, fluffy, and creamy. I'm starting to believe that hemp milk makes just about everything better!

My mood is slowly improving now that I am sipping delicious coffee (with vanilla soy milk and agave nectar) at work. I'm about 3 sips away from finishing my mug; a second cup is most definitely in my near future.

** Forgot to add: While studying I also munched on a handful of Puffins.

Birthday Girl

Happy 27th Birthday, Sister!!! I hope you have a wonderful day! Can't wait to celebrate with you tomorrow! :)

In case you're wondering, I actually call my sister, "Sister," and not by her first name. We've had weird nicknames for each other for as long as I can remember. She calls me "Peter" (long story). It's funny because a lot of my sister's friends now call me "Peter" and some of my friends call her "Sister." Sister and Peter are almost like our real names now! :)

Siblings on my 28th birthday...

Meal Replacements

Since a lot of us are often on-the-go and like to try new products, I thought I'd share an article I read this morning from Women's Health magazine. They reviewed a bunch of different meal replacement options (bars and drinks/smoothies), some of which, I have never tried.

Question of the Day

When you're in a bad mood, what is your "go to" pick me up?

Today's my birthday too! Happy birthday to your sis!

Oh, and my sisters and I all call each other 'sister'

Funny question of the day, since I woke up in a bad mood due to waking up off and on throughout the night! Almost went to work out around 5, then fell back asleep and had to rush around to get to work on time :( Hate that. To get out of those moods, I usually vent to a close friend (so that I can get a grasp on how "not a big deal" it usually is), treat myself to Starbucks rather than invading the candy jar, and try to go for a run later in the day to work off some of that negative energy.

Hope your day improves!

Tina, do you notice an after taste from the agave nectar?

Tina said...

Beth,

I don't really-- just a sweet flavor. I've never tasted agave nectar by itself though. I've only had it mixed in something.

That is funny about your nicknames. My sister and I both call each other Sis, always have since she was born. I couldn't say her name yet and it stuck. It sounds weird when I refer to her by her name and she says the same thing.

Ahh, sorry about waking up on the wrong side :0( But hooray for a fantastic breakfast! :0)

Happy birthday to your sister!!!

When I wake up on the wrong side of the bed, I do lots of stretching (even more-so than usual) - it helps to energize me.

Bad mood - glass of wine. :) Or a pounding, sweaty, intense run. Or both.

My sister and I call each other Seester, among other things. I don't think we've ever used each other's real name! Happy birthday to your Sister!

I was grumpy until I impulse bought medjool dates on my way to work this morning for a quick snack. I had been wondering about everyone raving about them, and now I finally understand. They are freaking delicious!

Aww, I call my sister, "Sister" too! She calls me "LaLa" :)

If I'm in a bad mood in the morning, I treat myself to a skim cappuccino with hazelnut--somehow, this always improves my mood. If I need a little pick-me-up in the evening, I have a (small) glass of sparkling wine, which is relaxing, pleasant, and kind of girly. I don't totally endorse retail therapy, but shopping can help, too--whether it be a new pair of jeans, nailpolish, or a magazine. You don't necessarily need to spend much money at all.

I wish I turned to exercise to improve my mood, but when I'm upset or stressed, I tend to become obsessive about exercise, which defeats the purpose of it for me. Sometimes yoga or Pilates will relax me, but to run, I need to be in fairly good spirits, or at least in a neutral state...

Boo- I hate waking up grumpy.

When I am in a bad mood, I make sure to take the day off from exercise (or I go for a walk) and come home from work, pop open a diet coke, and watch trashy tv while cleaning my apartment. By the end of the night, my house is clean and I feel refreshed.

Hrm, well it depends on the mood. If I'm really upset, Muay Thai class usually helps because smacking around a punching bag is very cathartic. :D If I'm a little down or not feeling well, it's all about comfort foods. And if I need to think or work something out, I cook and run (not at the same time!).

Considering the time a year my go to is a Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks mmmm.

PS Good for you getting up in the mornings and studying. That takes a lot of discipline. Thats a sign that you are totally serious about the career change and are obviously interested in the material and you made a good decision.

Aw cute sis pic!! Happy Birthday to "Sister!"

Congrats on getting that good study time in, I need to be that productive today.

Sometimes when I'm in a bad mood curling up with a good book can really help, other times, I need a good spin class :)

P.S. What is your oatmeal-oat bran ratio? I've been wanting to have oat bran for breakfast, and I didn't know if I should do all oat bran or mix with oatmeal. Your thoughts? Thanks!

That's cute about your sister. :)

When I wake up on the wrong side of the bed, I either go running or listen to music that will perk me up. Right now my go to cd's when I'm trying to get out of a bad mood are the soundtrack from Legally Blonde the Musical and any of Kelly Clarkson's cds.

Jenngirl,

My oatmeal-oat bran ratio is 1:1. I don't know if I am worn-out on oat bran or what, but it doesn't do it for me anymore. Instead of throwing out the canister, I've been mixing it with oatmeal until its gone. Oat bran is a great alternative to oatmeal though. (I guess I am just bored with it?) Bulgar is another great one, which you guys will probably be seeing on the blog very soon! :)

Happy Birthday Sister!!!
A nice warm cup of tea or coffee always helps my mood - something soothing about the warmth running through my body.

My bad mood "go-to" is Vodka. Hate to say it, but it's true! Luckily I don't get in bad moods too often!
You rave about it so much that I'm definitely going to have to try hemp milk soon.

I love your oatmeal idea! So funny, my post this morning was about Oatmeal, it's benefits, and some recipes that I love.

I actually added a link to your post today as another recipe idea :). Feel free to take a look and use the link if you'd like :)

If I'm having a bad day I need to give myself something to look forward to. So I'll usually go out at lunch time to Starbucks or some other treat, or shopping! I also make sure to workout at some point that day because I know I'd feel worse if I didn't.

I definitely woke up on the wrong side of the bed today too! :( I still haven't snapped out of it. I even got up, drove to school, realized there was no way I'd do anything productive, and headed home. I sort of felt better after I had eaten lunch, but meh! I hope your day gets better!

Happy Birthday, Sister!

Peter, when I am in a bad mood I call Mark and he makes me laugh.

If it's anytime in the a.m. hours up until 5... a cup of coffee ALWAYS perks me right up! As soon as 5 hits though... nothing does the job better than a glass of vino. Or a cocktail. Or a beer. :)

I love your blog!

I wish I had a sister... But I have a big, lunky brother instead =P

His name is Colton, but I call him Cotton. It was a nickname I gave him when we were little because I was just oh-so-funny, but it stuck. =]

That breakfast, yum. My go-to comfort food is one of two choices: (1) baked sweet potato with this great brown rice/moong bean combo as a side; or (2) roasted butternut squash with cranberries. (just noticed, they are both orange and creamy tasting, pattern anyone? LOL). Non-food, doing crossword puzzles always help me snap out of a bad mood. Or, many times, a good hard run does it.

Neat that you call your sister "Sister" - have you always done that?
